Septic Inspections in Maine: Ensuring Safe and Effective Wastewater Management

Clean, fresh water is vital to human life, and properly managing wastewater is just as essential. That’s where septic inspections in Maine come into play. Whether you own a home or business, regular septic inspections are critical to ensure your system is functioning safely and effectively. A failing septic system can harm the environment, contaminate water supplies, and lead to costly repairs.

If your property connects to a public sewer, the sewer district handles wastewater disposal. However, in rural areas, private septic systems are the norm. These systems require regular maintenance and inspections to remain in compliance with Maine’s environmental standards.

Why Are Septic Inspections Important?

Septic systems can experience wear and tear over time. Issues such as leaks, clogs, or structural failures might not be visible until they become significant problems. A professional septic inspection ensures that your system:

  • Safely processes wastewater.
  • Protects nearby water sources from contamination.
  • Remains compliant with local regulations.

It will give you a clear view of the subsurface wastewater system for your home, commercial property, or rental property, providing peace of mind for both buyer and seller. The process of a septic inspection looks like this.
Call Main-Land at 207-897-6752 and schedule a septic inspection. Or you can do it online at www.main-landdci.com .
Before arriving on site, our state-certified septic inspector will check the state database for the HHE-200 (septic design) for the property.
Once on site, our state certified septic inspector will do an internal camera inspection of the pipe from the home to the septic tank to check for damages, clogging, pipe sags, and root growth.

Our state certified septic inspector will then fully inspect the septic tank and leachfield by digging up the septic tank, checking the solids level, checking the condition of the septic tank baffles and checking the solids level to see if the tank needs to be pumped.

Then the septic inspector will perform an internal camera inspection of the outlet pipe from the tank to the leachfield to check for root growth or damage to the pipe.

Then the distribution box will be dug up, and the individual lines of the leachfield will be inspected via internal camera.

The disposal field and tank will be measured to check for the correct sizing for the number of bedrooms in the home and distances to the potable water supply.

The inspector will prepare and submit a full written condition report with photos and maintenance recommendations.
